People of the Forest

There were once hundreds of thousands of orangutans in Borneo. Today less than 60,000 remain.

‘People of the Forest’ is a short film directed by Earthrise co-founders Alice Aedy and Jack Harries celebrating the heroic BOS Foundation conservationists dedicating their lives to save the orangutan from extinction. The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation works with local communities and the Indonesian government to rescue orangutans and combat the threats to their existence such as deforestation, hunting, illegal pet trade, and forest fires.

Since 2012 these brave conservationists have released 400 orangutans back into the wild, however, some of them need a little extra support. They are rarely as forest-competent as their wild counterparts who have spent all their lives in the forest. That's why all release candidates are implanted with radio transmitters, so BOS Foundation's team of experts can track their location and monitor them following their return to the wild.
